This operatic collaboration with composer Max Syedtollan is an adaptation of probably the worst book I've ever read, in both the aesthetic and 'do no evil' sense - Ayn Rand’s 1943 novel ‘The Fountainhead’. Despite the book’s weaknesses, flatlining dialogue, didacticism and predictability, it is seen by many as a cornerstone of the ideology which eventually landed us ten years of austerity; this deconstructed opera is partly driven by the question of ‘how did we get here’. Our act of vandalism / interpretation was staged through an anarchic combination of script, improvisation and questionable voice acting.
